Thoughts
There are just so many things that went wrong at the 2012 MBC Drama Awards, but what really shocked me – and is creating an uproar amongst netizens – is the HUGE snub delivered to Ahn Jae-wook. I was a bit surprised Kim Soo-hyun didn’t win the Daesang, but I wasn’t surprised Jo Seung-woo won it. Twisty twisty, but totes makes sense, right? So, I want to make it clear that I don’t begrudge Jo Seung-woo his Daesang. The man’s an amazing actor, and I really don’t understand why some people are bashing on him. What does bother me is that Ahn Jae-wook didn’t get a SINGLE award. Zero. Zippo. Zilch. Seriously, MBC?!?! You created a “Special Award” for Lee Sung-min but didn’t give a single award to Ahn Jae-wook? He led a SIXTY-FOUR EPISODE drama that was at the top of the ratings pile for most of its run. And ratings are what matter to you, no? Because on the acting front, he was superb. So, what’s the reason? You tacked on FOURTEEN episodes to a drama already 50 episodes long, and he successfully carried it, and absolutely nothing at all?!?! Gah, my blood pressure’s out of control.
As for the rest of the awards, not too many surprises, though I was a bit shocked Jo Jeong-seok (The King 2 Hearts) didn’t win the New Actor Award. Eun Shi-kyuuuung! Lee Yoon-ji, though, dedicated her award to him, so I guess he got half a trophy? The King 2 Hearts just had a pretty bad outing at the ceremony this year. Nothing for Lee Seung-gi or Ha Ji-won, and even Lee Sung-min’s award was for his role in Golden Time.
The adooorable cuties Yeo Jin-gu, Kim Yoo-jung, and Kim So-hyun did a cute skit that gave me the tickles. Kim Yoo-jung and Yeo Jin-gu recited famous lines from MoonSun when Kim So-hyun suddenly showed up with her yellow umbrella and called out for “Jung-woo, Han Jung-woo.” Noona killer Yeo Jin-gu promptly took off his hanbok, under which he was wearing his Jung-woo school uniform, and joined Kim So-hyun. Kim Yoo-jung, though, couldn’t let go of her Jeon-ha, and Yeo Jin-gu deftly slipped his hanbok back on. LOLOL. Seriously, SO. CUTE. The boy’s gonna break hearts major time.
All in all, a pretty standard year-end drama awards ceremony, minus THE IDIOCY. What did you all think? Pleased? Distraught? Happy dance? Temper tantrum? Please share!! 😀
Only one award for The King 2 Hearts !!!!!
i know, sad panda for its fans 😦
Well…MoonSun was the ‘nation’s drama’ with the ratings and I assume that MBC is surely going to give the awards to the show that brought in the top ratings to the station. Oh well.
Although I haven’t watched TK2H, I heard good reviews about it and was quite surprised that it didn’t get many awards it deserved. They could have made another spot for Best Couple, New Actor, and Excellence Award Actor & Actress. A little disappointed with the results…maybe those who didn’t come to the ceremony didn’t get the awards?? 😮
yep, moonsun was slated to sweep, and it pretty much did~ i agree, i was a bit disappointed with the results overall, not just with the ahn jae-wook fiasco. as for absent awardees, i’m not quite sure if they made last-minute changes… but sadly enough, korean actors/actresses tend not to attend awards ceremonies if they don’t think they’ll win. it’s something that’s always bothered me… xD
han ga in won instead of ha ji won?! big-eyed acting won over bad-ass soldier chick? gahhh.
Loved your comment 😀 sometimes, people appreciate beauty more than talent; appearances trump skills. I guess the awarding board needs to step up in deciding their winners. Too bad ratings play a big role and sometimes good dramas are underrated and go unnoticed
long time no see to you, too, musewb!!! another 1997 family member! 😀 😀 😀
i totes agree these awards ceremonies are more like “thank you for playing”. or actually “please come back, superstar” hahahaa!
and i’m glad to still be here 🙂 really hope that they’ll do something different when it comes to awarding the actors/actresses in the future…
i wish i wish i wish… 🙂
long time no seeee, afufu!!! i’m so glad to see 1997 family members still with us! 😀 😀 i can’t hate on han ga-in (she seems like a sweet person), but i agree ha ji-won defs deserved some kind of award xD
i totally love it that Jo Seung Woo won His two awards. He has a wonderful screen presence and really carries the drama. as for the Ahn Jae Wook snub …. politics of dramaland, no doubt.
welcome to our Patch, juliana!! i defs agree jo seung-woo is simply mahvelous — i want to watch him in a shorter drama where he can really let loose 😀 it was so cute when he asked kim so-eun for help during his acceptance speech ^^
i wonder what in the world could have gone on for ahn jae-wook to be so summarily dismissed… i guess we’ll never know xD
thanks for joining us & sharing your thoughts with us, juliana!! hope you continue your entertainmentland journey with us!! 😀
i’ve got nothing against Han Ga In as a person but as an actress, I really don’t get her…she’s pretty I’ll give her that. But really, her acting isn’t there or anywhere AT ALL.
I was so disappointed that Jo Jung Suk didn’t get any award T__T
but I’m comforted with the fact that Lee Yoon Ji bagged an award :’) not
gonna hide the fact that I’m a huge fan of hers since her Pure Heart/Hearts of 19 days.
yeppity yep on the han ga-in count 😉 and jo jeong-seok T_T
oh my gollies i totes loved lee yoon-ji in “pure heart” or whatever the strange translation was!!! seriously, Satsuki, our shared wubs are starting to add up to a biiiig number ^^ hahahaa!!
