Just a few Headlines
1. Singer, rapper, concert king, and all-around funnyman Psy recently made his comeback with his sixth album, headlined by the addicting song “Gangnam Style.” The music video has over 11 million views and counting on Youtube, and both the song and MV have been gaining lots of interest and praise from around the world – so much so that CNN reported on it. LOL. Well, I guess we can’t report on Syria all day long. Josh Groban, T-Pain, and the likes are tweeting about “Gangnam Style” and I really wonder what they’re thinkin’ when they see the “horse dance.” I watched an interview with Psy on the set of his MV, and when asked what his MV ‘concept’ was, he dead-panned, “The furthest thing from ‘cool’.” The hilarious MV features nationally loved comedian and MC Yoo Jae-suk, idol rapper/singer HyunA of 4Minute, and comedian Noh Hong-chul. I’ve been cracking up watching it – for those of you who haven’t caught the Psy virus yet, check it out below!
2. Star-stocked summer blockbuster Thieves opened to some serious weekend box office numbers two weeks ago, and it has now surpassed the 5 million viewership mark. The film stars Kim Yoon-suk, Kim Hye-soo, Lee Jung-jae, Jun Ji-hyun, Kim Soo-hyun, Kim Hae-sook, and Oh Dal-soo, among others. By all accounts the action flick is receiving much love from everyone. I can’t wait to see it!
3. England is pretty darned busy right now hosting the 30th Olympiad, but its famed BBC made some time for Kpop. BBC and KBS just agreed to jointly hold a Kpop concert and produce a documentary about it. BBC and Kpop? It’s a bit difficult to reconcile Emma+Knightley with idol stars, but it looks like it’s gonna happen! Dates have not yet been set for the concert or documentary release.
